Sorry, I didn't make myself clear earlier, but this is what I mean. Truthfully, I live over 500 miles away from my own home town that I grew up with and I sometimes feel like an oddball in my neighborhood where me and my wife is currently living at. My wife is fully happy where she lives at in her own hometown, but I feel like an oddball at times. Thanks everyone!

  1. My husband and I are from the same hometown and we moved away to get away from his interfering mother. So, no, I guess I am pretty happy to be 750 miles away.

  2. I live 250 miles away from my hometown and we live in my hubby's hometown.   I understand completely what you are saying.  It will change if you get involved.  I did that.  I got involved in different activities and met different people.  I felt much more welcome and not such an oddball the more I visited.  It helped that I had jobs that were in town.  I met more people that way.

  3. My fiance and I are living in Mexico :( I miss New Jersey but hopefully someday we'll move back

  4. yes, no

  5. Have a get together and invite neighbors. That's what my husband and I did. We live in Kansas and are from Maryland. I know how your wife feelings. It's easy for my husband to meet new people but not me. Introduce your wife to your friends wives.

  6. Yea I was homesick when me and hubby first moved away but in time it does get better.

  7. I live a continent away from where I grew up. I totally get what you are saying. I feel like a weirdo sometimes but you work with what you have. You try to make friends. Join a bowling league. Play bingo at the church hall. Go to PTA if you have kids, volunteer at the senior center/hospital...Being active in the community will help you assimilate. Good luck

  8. I live 500+ miles from where I grew up.  I left when I was 19 & never looked back.  Still visit relatives now & again but have no desire to relocate there.  In fact I look forward to moving elsewhere.  To me its an adventure.
