Can any one help please with that

Me (Egyptian) and my fiance(American) attended to get married in egypt last july

we went to the minstry of justice to get married but they asked for Document of approval from the us embassy

so we went but the embassy did not provided such document because the egyptian minstry of justice do not accept this document any more !!

So the Consular suggested that either we get married in other country or at the usa but i can't use my b-1 Visa to go i must get a k-3 visa to be able to get married !!

so is there any legal way to get married in egypt ?

or is there any near reslotion between the us embassy and the minstry of justice regarding this matter ?

becasue the problem is out there since 10-04-2007 and nothing is updated since then

thanks in advance :)

  1. Actually, i think that you should get a lawer and he/she will handle it in proper as one of my friend has just married to an italian and they married in Egypt. But as i said they hired a lawer and everything sent smoothly.

    Anyway, Congrats and wish you a happy life :)

  2. Basically, you won't be able to get married at this point in Egypt - from the US Embassy Cairo website:

    "This message serves to inform the American community that the Consular Section of the Embassy is currently not providing the affidavit required by the Egyptian Government to authorize the marriage of a foreigner in Egypt.

    The Egyptian Ministry of Justice, the authority conducting marriage in Egypt, officially notified the Embassy that it will not accept the Embassy’s form designated for that purpose as it does not fulfill the requirement stated under Egyptian law. The Government of Egypt requests the U.S. Embassy to object or approve the marriage of U.S. citizens. The U.S. government does not have legal authority to neither approve nor object to the marriage of American citizens. We understand that American citizens may be inconvenienced by this problem. The Embassy continues to pursue this with Egyptian officials."

    Choose another country near Egypt - check the US embassy websites in each country for details and find one that is convenient.

  3. yes unfortunately it is not easy to get married in Egypt;

    WARNING About Documentation Requirements:

    Getting married in Egypt as a foreigner has become much more complex. Basically, the door has been closed on foreign marriages. If you are planning to get married in Egypt, make sure you understand the requirements and marriage regulations.

    You should consult an attorney or the services of a notary since the latest news (as of May 12, 2007) from the U.S. Consular Section of the Embassy is that the Consular Section is not providing the affidavit required by the Egyptian Government to authorize the marriage of a foreigner in Egypt.

    It is necessary to get a notarized, sworn statement that you are free to marry. Since the Consular Service is not providing this form any longer, if you are an American, you should consult an attorney or the services of a notary.

    ID Requirement and Ceremony:

    Proof of citizenship or a valid passport. All documents need to be translated into Arabic. You need to have two male witnesses who have identification papers with you when you apply for the marriage license.

    There is no residency requirement.

    Ceremony:

    A marriage in Egypt is legal only if it is a civil ceremony performed at a local marriage court. You can have a religious ceremony ;

  4. Apply for a marriage in Egypt and complete the documents as required.  When the required documents are complete, you now now marry in Egypt before an authorized solemnizing officer or religious leader.
