  1. It all boils down to how you feel in terms of respect concerning other churches, beliefs, and traditions.  Yes, there is a certain way of going about it concerning the roman catholic churches.  But otherwise, I feel that you should be able to if you so desire.  Find something that makes you feel good about it - i.e., honoring deceased parent(s) by going to the church they went to (which is what my b/f and I have talked about - yes, funny we're not engaged and we've already made mention of that!)... and we're not exactly Christian, but we feel that we respect those churches nonetheless.  Or as you suggested, the town you were born in.

Yes, you could do that.  Just make sure that you check with any rules or regulations your parish may have first.

  2. If you don't even believe in God, why would you bother getting married in any church at all?

  3. if you are registered in a parish and you are a practising parishioner then yes you can get married in another parish

just contact the priest or minister in the parish that you want to get married in it should not be a big problem.

PS if you are baptised in the rc church you can get married in any rc church in the world?

if you do not belireve in god what is the point of this question

  4. I would recommend saving yourself the hassle and just getting married at a beautiful hotel or other venue. There isn't any sense in trying to get another parish to marry you if you don't believe in the tenets of that church.

  5. The reason you've never seen a good answer is that it completely depends on the church. I'm getting married back home, but that's because I'm registered there. If you're RC you're not likely to be able to do so, because they require you be a member of that parish in most cases.

  6. I know that in Ireland, we have to provide the priest of the parish with letters from the parishes of every parish we have ever lived in. Doesn't matter if you are even getting married in your own parish, you still have to do it. Crazy! I don't think it depends on the level of your belief. Here I think you have to pay a fee to both parishes, a fee where you are having it and a fee to where you are not. Again, crazy!  However, I think dispensations can be made to a certain degree. I hope so anyway. I want to get married in the church where I grew up and I think it will depend on the priest celebrating the marriage as to what I will get away with or not. That sounds awful, but I have travelled alot and could never get a letter from every parish! Nobody would now me or have heard of me in thessse places! I think you need to talk to the priests in both parishes and find out what's the score.
