  2. Morning,

I am in the UK and also getting married in Kenya March 2009.

If you are both single, (i.e not divorced or widowed) you will each need an affidavit from a solicitor to say that you are both single and able to marry.

If you are divorced or widowed you will need the deeds to prove this. Divorce papers, death certificate etc.

If you have changed your name by deed pole you will also need to get this legalized by a solicitor.

You both need a FULL copy of your birth certificate.

You have to photocopy every thing and send this to resort (if you are getting married in a hotel) they say 6 weeks before your wedding date but i would allow 12 to be on the safe side (Kenyan post is not the best in the world).

You have to be a resident in Kenya for 21 days to get married there BUT if you hand in your paperwork on time and in the correct order with the correct fee's etc, the resort will apply to the court for a special marriage licence and you only need to be resident for 4 working days before your marriage.

When you fly to Kenya you need to take ALL original documents with you NOT COPIES (you will get these back).

Then a judge or minister will marry you providing you have done all they ask.

Oh and you need 6 months left on your passport from the date you arrive back in the UK.
