  1. 1.  Mars has less gravity, but just like falling from a height on Earth, you'll go faster and faster unless something slows you down or stops you.

    2.  Mars has less air.  With Earth, you'll hit a maximum speed called the "terminal velocity" of about 110mph.  Since Mars has less air, I would expect a much higher terminal velocity if you fell on Mars.

    3.  NASA is planning a manned trip to Mars.  I'm sure looking for present or past life will be on their list of things to do there.

  2. You could just jump down into the Grand Canyon, too, but it wouldn't be a very good idea.  I thought water ice was found on Mars recently -- am I mistaken?  Finding life (even bacteria, amoeba, or other simpler life forms) on Mars hasn't been done yet.

Mars has less gravity, but the life support equipment needed would make it hard to stop at the end of the leap into a Martian valley.  Getting back up so you could come home might be even more difficult.  Have you ever hiked in sand dunes?  There may well be a lot of dust and sand dunes in these valleys where things are sheltered from the winds.
