  1. The purpose of the Phoenix Lander was not to find water. It was specifically landed in the Martian arctic. An area known to house ice water beneath the surface.

Water has been known to exist on Mars since 1998.

The purpose of the Phoenix Lander was to scoop up ice, and heat it to test for amino acids. The finding of amino acids would lend more credence to the possibility of micro-organisms on Mars such as bacteria and other small creatures.

It is well known that water exists in one form or another throughout our Solar System on all planets and most moons. Water is a common molecule. It is the combination of other elements which need to react with water to form amino acids that is not so common.

  2.   There is no indication that water was found on Mars.

They said something that looked white and evaporated could have been ice.

It is wishful thinking,if they did find water it would have caused sensational news.

  3. nothing.

  4. Now they can use the water for fuel. They are going to run gasoline engines and create an atmosphere and colonize Mars.
