The two Ligue 1 giants are keen on acquiring the services of 20-year-old Nampalys Mendy who is currently plying his trade in Ligue 2 with league leaders AS Monaco
Part of the current AS Monaco set-up, young Nampalys Mendy will be out of contract in June next year which means that his current situation is attracting many clubs in Ligue 1 particularly, AS Saint-Etienne and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127.
Whenever Monaco manager Claudio Ranieri names the starting XI for games, the 20-year-old defensive midfielder’s name is always there and for good reason. The Italian tactician is a great fan of the youngster who is good in the offense and equally good when
it comes to helping his defensive partners.
“I like him because he attacks, he is very aggressive in making recoveries and he affects a lot of our plays,” says the former AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 manager while talking to Nice-Matin.
Since the beginning of the 2012/2013 Ligue 2 campaign, Mendy has been a revelation for the Monegasque club which aims to return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899’s elite by the end of the current campaign. The youngster is an important part of Ranieri’s squad which is the reason
why he has now been offered a three-year extension to his current contract according to France Football.
However, knowing the direction where his club is headed, Mendy fears for his playing time next season. Under the ownership of Dmitry Rybolovlev, Monaco are bound to spend money on star players in the next summer’s transfer window if they are able to win
promotion to the Championnat.
Reports claim that the likes of Olympique de Marseille, AS Saint-Etienne, OGC Nice, and Sochaux are very keen on attaining the services of the France Under-21 international who definitely has all the traits to become a star player in the future.
However, Claudio Ranieri has chosen to remain tight-lipped regarding his young asset’s future by saying that it would do Mendy a world of good if he chooses to stay at Stade Louis II.
“The important thing for him is to stay calm and stay here with a coach who appreciates him. I’ve seen too many players go and disappear,” says the shrewd Italian.
Indeed, wise words from a man who has seen a lot of highs and lows in football management.
