Souleymane Diawara has come out to reassure fans that Olympique de Marseille will recover after a series of results that may well put them in a relegation battle if it continues
On Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain managed to beat Olympique de Marseille 2-1 at the Parc des Princes to stay in hunt for their first Ligue 1 title in almost 18 years.
However, the result was a major blow for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127’s chances of finishing the season in a European place. Things haven’t gone well at all for Les Phoceens who have now gone 11 games without a victory.
Naturally, this poor run of results has left Marseille in a right old fix and there could be serious repercussions if they do not return to winning ways.
“What we are seeing at the moment, it is very difficult. But thinking about relegation, this is too much,” said http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 international knows that he can’t help his
side anymore but is not worried about Marseille’s future in Ligue 1.
The defender says that players are not going to put down their heads and will work hard as always.
“You always look up. There are still some matches and our heads won’t go down.”
Currently in ninth place with 40 points, Didier Deschamps’ men are pretty much safe from relegation worries. However, this run of defeats could prove to be a major threat on the club’s survival in Ligue 1.
When it comes to playing against most of the big teams in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and Europe, Marseille do get that extra energy to compete. Against PSG, Marseille did well to level the game. However, it is the end product that’s lacking.
Furthermore, Marseille have done uncharacteristically poor against teams that they should be beating easily.
Now, Didier Deschamps’ men are left with just eight games which include tough fixtures again Montpellier, Bordeaux, Lyon and Saint-Etienne. Furthermore, Marseille will also play relegation-threatened sides like Auxerre, Sochaux, Caen and Lorient which means
that Deschamps must somehow find a way to change things at the club.
