Cesar Azpilicueta, the Marseille defender, has revealed he has not received an offer from English Premier League giants Chelsea in the winter transfer window.
According to reports the Blues had offered the 22-year-old right back an estimated 22 million pounds to join the London side in the January transfer window. However, the player himself has gone on to deny the rumours, claiming he was happy with the Ligue
1 side.
After a disappointing start to the 2011-2012 season Chelsea have been on the lookout for potential defenders they could bring in the mid-season transfer window. Having already signed central defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439, the Blues are now looking for further defensive
players.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager Andre Villas-Boas reportedly has his sights set on Azpilicueta and intends to bring him to Stamford Bridge this month. The Portuguese manager wishes to strengthen the back four so his side can launch a fresh title challenge in the remaining
half of the season.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 under-21 international has denied the link, claiming he had not received an offer from the Blues as yet. He revealed the Premier League side had to discuss matters with his current side if they wished to approach him.
Azpilicueta said in an interview:
“For me, these are just rumours. There has been no contact, and I am still bound to OM until 2014. Now, if the leaders of Chelsea want me, they should first discuss that with OM. If a proposal comes, I will think about it.”
The youngster is hoping to receive a call-up from the senior national side and is aware that he will have to play for a top club if he wishes to impress the national team manager. He admitted he would preferably want to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid
but that was not a possibility at this time.
Azpilicueta confirmed he was currently happy with the French side but would consider leaving if a top club came calling. He revealed:
“It is more difficult to start in the national team when you do not play at a great club. You have to be at Real or http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
But I feel good today at OM.”
