Marseille looking to sue Nigel De Jong for his offensive tackle
Hatem Ben Arfa who was currently playing his first season in the English Premier League as a season long loan signing by Newcastle, has been forced to sit a major chunk of his stay at the club on the sidelines. This is all thanks to a bone crunching tackle
by Manchester City's defensive midfielder, Nigel De Jong. When both the sides met to face off in their scheduled Premier League game within the opening ten minutes, De Jong had gone all out on Be Arfa with a sliding tackle and as a result the French midfielder
was forced off the pitch on a stretcher.
It was initially not clear as to how severe the player’s injuries were, but soon after it was revealed that the midfielder had suffered a broken fibula and tibia.
Marseille who are on paper still as Ben Arfa's parent club have not taken to the news very lightly. In fact the team is looking to legally challenge De Jong in court. According to the president of the French team, "We will file a claim against De Jong. It's
about getting rid of this type of individual from European grounds."
"It was a wild and unnecessary offence. He went in much too hard.”
"I have a problem with the way Nigel needlessly looks to push the limit. I am going to speak to him."
Clearly the French club refuse to see the Dutch midfielders actions as mere coincidence or an accident, they are currently pursuing the option to have De Jong permanently banned from European football, which in some ways seems like the only fair solution
to the situation. However, it will eventually be up to FIFA to decide if they are going to actually consider the appeal by the club and even if they do, they will have to decide the level of punishment that is imposed of De Jong.
After stating that the club wished to sue De Jong for his highly violent act, the president of Marseille went on to state that Ben Arfa was still a member of their squad, and they would do all that they can to help him. He was reported to have said, "Ben
Arfa asked our medical staff to help and we will do everything we can to help him, obviously."
Both the Newcastle and Marseille fan's will be hoping that the prolific midfielder, can recover as soon as possible so he can once again be found running havoc to whatever team he faces.
