After slumping to yet another defeat in Ligue 1, Olympique de Marseille coach Elie Baup knows that the club is in dire need of reinforcements in the winter transfer window and is hoping to get some assistance from the club’s owners
Asked about the current squad of the club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 coach, Elie Baup chose to take an evasive stance and said, “For the transfer window, reflection is done, we’ll see.”
After an excellent start to the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign which saw them go undefeated in the first six weeks, Les Phoceens have witnessed a slump in form and are currently in fourth place in the Ligue 1 standings, two points behind league leaders, Olympique
Lyonnais.
On Sunday, Elie Baup’s side lost 1-0 to Bordeaux at the Stade Chaban Delmas and consequently, missed out on an opportunity to go on top of the league standings at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain who lost 2-1 at home to Stade Rennais on Saturday.
Despite such a good start to the season, the lack of depth in the bench is pretty obvious. Apart from injuries to Andre-Pierre Gignac and Loic Remy, the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rod-Fanni-c31402, Nicolas N’Koulou and Benoit Cheyrou are not in great form at the moment which is
another thing that should worry Baup who knows that his side cannot afford any further slip-ups if they are to contest for the Championelle this term.
According to Le Provence, the club is working behind the scenes to bring in reinforcements that can help the Marseille ship steady its course. After seeing club owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus tightening her purse in the summer transfer window, it might be
tough to negotiate with her for a winter transfer session.
The majority shareholder of the club has at present, no plans to free up cash for future recruitments which is indeed a major blow for Elie Baup who knows that the current squad is not deep enough to stay consistent throughout the campaign.
The appearance of an unknown Apruzesse is another example of how desperate things have become at the Velodrome. With the club’s economic realities hard to evade, it is clear that Marseille are in for tough times yet again after such a promising start to
the new campaign.
