Marseille not considering Benzema move
Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier has made a U-turn on his comments about the possibility of a loan move for Real Madrid striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350. Dassier had initially declared that the club could make a bid for the former Lyon
man, but the Marseille owner has now backtracked on his comments, declaring his previous assertion to be a joke.
Benzema joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2009. The Frenchman has since struggled to secure a regular place for himself in the starting eleven, with manager Jose Mourinho opting to play Gonzalo Higuain in his place. An injury to Higuain
has sidelined the Argentinean for the rest of the season, giving Benzema a rare chance to prove his worth.
The former Lyon striker has been impressive so far, scoring the winning goal against Real Mallorca over the weekend. The goal was vital for Real Madrid’s title chances this season, and kept them within touching distance of leaders Barcelona.
However, manager Jose Mourinho’s recent acquisition of Manchester City striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526, shows his lack of faith in the Frenchman’s talents.
Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier had said he was considering a swoop for the out-of-favour striker, telling French TV channel M6 that the club could ‘reasonably think’ of a loan move for Karim Benzema. However, Dassier has now
backtracked on his remarks.
Speaking about his assertion that Marseille would make a move for Benzema, the Marseille president said, “It was humour. We have finished (our business) in the transfer window. Nobody is considering recruiting. I said something stupid but that doesn't mean
that you have to go on about it.”
A move for Benzema would hardly be stupid. The striker scored more than 100 goals during his time with Lyon, and his ability in the Ligue 1 is proven. If Marseille were to acquire the Frenchman, it might just give them the edge they need to come out on top
in the five-way battle for the Ligue 1 crown.
