Marseille official Vincent Labrune reveals that Didier Deschamps will remain with the French side
Olympique Marseille official, Vincent Labrune, has revealed that Didier Deschamps will remain the manager of the club for the next season.
Deschamps has been linked with a number of vacant positions at Barclays Premier League clubs including Fulham, Aston Villa and his former playing club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. The 42-year-old is in the last year of his contract with the French club and reports in the media
suggest that he wants to quit Les Phoceens.
Marseille could not defend their Ligue 1 title and finished second behind Lille in the 2010/11 season. News in the media also suggested that there is some unrest in the camp between the owners and the manager over lack of spending done in the previous years,
but Labrune announced in a press release that the former Juventus midfielder wants to extend his stay at the Stade Velodrome.
Labrune said, "I can confirm that Didier Deschamps is our coach next season and wants to extend his contract.”
However, Deschamps is believed to be eyeing an exit from Marseille and refused to commit his future to the club in a press conference held at the end of the season. The former Monaco manager stated that he has made no commitment with the club and will decide
about his future when his contract expires next season.
Deschamps said, "I have one year left on my contract and you know the freedom I will have. I'm thinking [about my future] and I know the roadmap ahead. The only thing I can tell you is that I have made no commitment [to Marseille].”
Deschamps joined the managerial role at Marseille in 2009 and has had a wonderful time with the club thus far. The World Cup Winner guided the club to win the league after 18 years and has also won back-to-back Cope de la Ligue in 2010 and 2011.
His affiliation with the club has a history as he was part of the 1991/92 league win with L’OM and also helped them to win the UEFA Champions League in 1992/93.
