The Bayern Munich winger has urged his teammates not to take the Ligue 1 side lightly ahead of the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-final.
Franck Ribery reckons that Olympique Marseille will be hard to beat at home despite their struggling run in the Ligue 1. The winger stated that Bayern Munich would need to work hard in upstaging Les Phoceens at the Stade Velodrome
irrespective of the opposition’s recent form.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international, who spent two years at Marseille, confirmed that the French side cannot be taken lightly as they have the ability to bounce back in difficult situations. He specified that no side can be regarded as favourites
at the European stage and the Reds will need to pay respect to their opponents at such an important stage of the competition.
While talking to sports website, Goal.com, the 28-year-old further added: "This is the Champions League, it is a different situation. And this is a good team [Marseille]. This will be a tough game.”
When asked if the winger still has some affection for his former employers, he admitted that it was an honour for him to play for Les Phoceens. However, he mentioned that Bayern have been his second home for the last five years
and would give his best in helping the Munich giants progress further in the competition.
Ribery also commented on his club’s back-to-back fixtures which have caused tiredness amongst the squad members. Bayern have played two games in four days including a 120 minute DFB-Pokal semi-final against Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Reds were able to emerge victorious in both the fixtures as they reached the final of the German Cup and downed Hannover 2-1 in the league fixture.
"Of course, I played two years at Marseille, but I'm very happy here at Bayern. The team is of course a little tired. After the cup game, though, this is normal," Ribery concluded.
Bayern are fresh from a 2-1 win over Hannover at the weekend and will take on Les Phoceens in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday, March 28, before hosting them for the return fixture on Tuesday,
April 3.
