Marsh and Cummins sit out Windies tour owing to fitness concerns – Cricket News Update
Left-hander Shaun http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Cummins were not considered by selectors for Australia’s upcoming tour of the West Indies, which is due to begin on March 16, owing to their poor form and fitness problems respectively.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SE-Marsh-c2470 has been struggling to regain his form ever since he regained his fitness from a back injury and made his subsequent comeback during the Test series against India earlier this year.
However, the return to cricket turned out to be a nightmare, as a shocking tally of 17 runs in six innings saw him fall into a batting slump. After the disastrous Test series, the top-order batsman took time off from national duty and turned hs attention
to the domestic Shield cricket in order to regain his form in time for the West Indian tour.
However, with the exception of his recent 79, scored for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 at the Gabba in early February, the 28-year-old was not able to achieve anything remarkable, and found himself excluded from the squad for the upcoming series.
“… he won't come in contention for the tour of the West Indies,” chief selector, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-John-Inverarity-c85980, said. “Shaun ….has had rather a traumatic time … We hope he comes back as good as ever, in form, but it's not going to be in the next month or two.”
Marsh is not the only hopeful to be disappointed. Young fast-bowler, Pat Cummins, had been recovering from a bone stress heel injury, and had expressed the hope that it would heal in time for the tour of the Caribbean. He was initially being considered by
the panel, before the injury flared up again last week, leading the NSP to exclude him from the touring squad.
“… you can't go into a Test match unless you've had the proper build-up of workloads, and he's not going to make it,” Inverarity confirmed.
Acknowledging that the 18-year-old had made an outstanding debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in November last year, when he took seven wickets and won the Player of the Match award, the chief selector claimed that Cummins would be considered for the ODI series
against England in June this year, but the panel did not want to push him back into the game prematurely.
“... we want him to be 100% fit before we contemplate him,” Inverarity explained. “That's why we're not taking him to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, to give him full time to become 100% fit and not rush him at all," said Inverarity.
