  1. Plus One Defense Systems in West Hartford near Elmwood. It isn't a huge school but it sure as heck isn't small. We just upgraded our space and have a boxing ring. Best part about this place is how close-knit it is. it is an extremely peaceful and loving atmosphere where you can feel like your almost family. it is run by a 4th degree black belt who has been inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2003 and Action Magazine's Hall of Honors as Master Instructor for 2008. Furthermore he started his own system of study called Sho Biyn Jiu.

    check out the site

  2. There is Cromwell Martial Arts, a Shaolin Kempo school, that seems to have a good training program.  There is a Japanese Martial Arts school, called Japanese Martial Arts School, but I couldn't find a web site.

There is also Evolution Martial Arts

16 Main St, Middletown, CT , again I couldn't find a website but is sounds cool.

A good martial arts school should train you in not only a traditional basis, but modern evolution as well. Shaolin Kempo always seems to move with the times and the Cromwell Martial Arts school teaches modern weapons, this is a good thing, this is probably the school I would pick.

Cromwell Karate also seems good.  There is a kung fu place near you, I have included a link for that as well.  kung fu usually has a steeper learning curve for use as self defense.

Personally, as a Krav Maga instructor and a Shaolin Kempo black belt, I prefer Kempo, regardless of the spelling as instructors seem to contiuously incoroporate new techniques into the system.

CTKEMPO has a free three week trial policy, so they must be comfortable with their product.  Someting worth looking into.

  3. Martial arts, firstly. Secondly, use your phone book and call them. Then drop by and decide what you like best.

  4. learn how to spell martial arts and ill tell you. hehehehe
