Marshall high school team wins home game against Eagles – Volleyball updates
Marshall high-school girls’ volleyball team, also known as the Tigers, went up against the Windom Area Eagles on Thursday, September 22. Despite a slow start to the game, the host Tigers managed to hold off their opponent for a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-11)
victory.
Marshall’s head coach, Dan Westby, was the man behind their success as he backed up the team at crucial moments and kept them motivated for the final win. Eagles, on the other hand, failed to sustain the pressure and suffered several setbacks. The success
in the Southwest Conference match improved the Tigers’ win/loss record to 10-2, while the Eagles moved to 11-4 in the season.
The guest team started out well and tried to put pressure on the home side with a 10-6 lead. Marshall’s Jessica Baker answered back and shortened the margin of points. She put away solid pipes, while Kenzie Beekman also joined her. As a result of the valiant
effort, Tigers went up. However, the level of resistance from the Eagles was increasingly high. They tried to down the hosts with different game tactics. It proved to be nothing but a failing effort as Marshall Squad strengthened its grip on the game and did
not allow the opponent to grab too many points. Eagles could only score 14 points as the first set slipped from their hands.
Tigers enjoyed a great form after securing the first set and delivered exquisite serves in the next frame. Meanwhile, Eagles were all set to seek revenge and cover the previous deficit. Both sides exchanged long rallies and tried to secure every single point
in the game. Hosts had slight advantage at 11-10 before McKittrick widened the gap to 15-11. The Tigers went on a scoring spree with a 10-4 run and pulled off success at 25-15.
The third set witnessed a lot of urgency as both teams tried to claim quick points. Maci Louwagie and Sydney Griffin of the Tigers created a good lead for the Marshall’s at 11-2. The host team carried the momentum and left the Eagles behind. The visiting
team could not defend its position with 11 points in the third set and received a 0-3 defeat in the match.
The winning coach of Marshall High School volleyball team shared his thoughts after the match. He stated: "We have some lofty goals for this weekend. It's a tough tournament. We open up with Eden Prairie, they are a good team. Win or lose, we play Lakeville
North or Jordan, two more quality teams. We think that's great that we are going to play good competition all weekend, we just have to compete hard all the way through."
