Marshawn Lynch traded to Seattle Seahawks
The Buffalo Bills have officially traded running back Marshawn Lynch to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for two undisclosed draft picks.
The move will make room for fourth-year running back Fred Jackson and rookie C.J. Spiller to get more playing time in the Bills backfield.
By bringing in Lynch, the Seahawks cut Julius Jones, their leading rusher for each of the last two seasons in order to clear a roster spot for the fourth-year running back.
The Seahawks will be hoping that Lynch will provide an immediate spark for their 27th-ranked rushing offence.
"We bring a guy into the program that we think is going to give us a little boost," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday. "You know that we've emphasized trying to get this running game in order.
We hope that he'll help in that regard. We're pleased to get that done. We'll move forward this week. It's good we're on a break. It doesn't disrupt a game-week preparation, and we'll get him in here as soon as possible and we'll get to work."
The struggling Buffalo Bills, on the other hand, will view the move as one that will help them further along down the road, and is another step in the rebuilding process which began last week when the
Bills released starting quarterback Trent Edwards.
"Marshawn has worked hard and played hard for us this season and we certainly appreciate his efforts," said Buddy Nix, the Buffalo Bills general manager in a statement released by the team. "We are constantly
evaluating our personnel and feel that this is a good move for our team's future."
Lynch had 164 yards on 37 carries for the Buffalo Bills after four games this season. He will have some time to get accustomed to his new team as the Seahawks enter their bye week. Lynch can expect to
see action in week six when the Seahawks travel to Chicago to take on the Bears.
