Marta Domachowska defeats Julia Glushko; moves in the final qualifying round of Brussels Ladies Open
The world number 238 Marta Domachowska made her way into the final round of qualifying draw at the 2011 Brussels Ladies Open on Sunday after getting the better of Julia Glushko in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. The match between Domachowska
and Glushko turned out to be the second longest match of the day, as it went on for one hour and fifty minutes.
Domachowska showed no signs of sluggishness during the process and made her opponent run every corner. She served and returned to perfection against Glushko and did not allow her opponent to take control of the match. Using the
whole court tentatively she moved the Israeli player to grab crucial points. She moved with maximum speed and peppered the lines with her aggressive shots. Her first serves accuracy defined her service games as she won an impressive 70 percent of her first
serves. The Pole converted 80 percent break points with five double faults during the process.
Domachowska breezed through a love hold in the opening service game and looked all business as she started showing some of her classy movements. Any thoughts that Glushko might had run out of steam were shelved for the moment as
she walloped a forehand past Domachowska for 4-1. Things were looking very dicey for Domachowska at 1-4, but she immediately composed herself before the Israeli overhauled her. Domachowska wonderfully hammered a couple of shots from the baseline to win two
consecutive games and it was unusual to see the world number 185 being dictated too much. The Pole won the first set with 6-4 score line.
Serving for the second set Domachowska took a 1-0 lead in the opener, Glushko wasn’t far behind though. Winning games on their service, both players tied the score at 3-3. Breaking serve in the seventh game and ninth game, Glushko
was able to secure a one set lead.
In the final set, Domachowska overcame all her shortcomings and managed to raise the level of her game with absolute precision and commendable style. Domachowska, who had to come from a set down to defeat Glushko, presented her
magnificent tennis skills as she outclassed the Israeli on every step of the final set to take it 6-1.
Domachowska by virtue of this victory has improved her win loss mark to 28-8 this year. Domachowska now moves on ahead to face Kaia Kanepi of Estonia who defeated Mariana Duque in the second round of the qualifying draw. Both opponents
will face each other for the first time in their career when they two meet at the final round of qualifying draw at the Royal Primrose Tennis Club on Monday.
