Martell Webster signs a one year deal with the Washington Wizards – NBA News
On Wednesday, the Washington Wizards announced the signing of free agent forward Martell Webster for one year worth $1.6 million.
"Martell brings a combination of versatility and shooting in addition to his experience. Adding him to the roster provides us with another solid veteran presence and gives us flexibility with our line ups at
both the shooting guard and small forward positions,” said Wizards team President Ernie Grunfeld in a press release.
Webster played for the Minnesota Timberwolves this past season, but his contract was bought out by the Wolves in July, as the Wolves cleared cap space to offer a four year $46.5 million offer to Portland Trail
Blazers restricted free agent Nicolas Batum.
After the Blazers matched the offer and retained Batum, the Wolves signed veteran Russian forward Andrei Kirilenko.
Webster was drafted by the Trail Blazers in the 2005 NBA Draft. He missed much of the 2008-09 NBA season with a foot injury, and was later traded to the Wolves.

Webster is only 25, and has many seasons ahead of him in the NBA if he is able to maintain his health. He is joining a Wizards team that has not seen much success in the past few years, but has some good pieces
in former number 1 draft pick John Wall and this year’s number three draft pick Bradley Beal. Webster has played at the 3 position for much of his career, and is a 37.4 percent career shooter from the three point range.
The player averages 8.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 23.4 minutes of playing time over his career. He played 47 games for the Wolves last season, out of which there were 26 starts. He averaged 6.9 points and 3.6
rebounds for the season, but was bought out when the Wolves decided to do an upgrade at the forward position and needed the cap space.

His place will most probably be taken by Kirilenko in the team, who has above 10 year experience in the NBA. For Wizards, Webster’s inclusion boosts the back court.
