Martha McCabe captures Women’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day three - 2012 Canada Swimming Cup
Martha McCabe of Pacific Dolphins Swim Club captured gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on third day of the 2012 Canada Swimming Cup in Montreal on Saturday, July 7.
The 22-year-old McCabe experienced strong resistance from her following swimmer, Jillian Tyler of Cascade Swim Club throughout the discipline, but with her fascinating efforts, she managed to outperform her over the finishing end for gold medal.
Her alluring efforts remained just a stroke away from her strongest challenger as she tapped the wall with a nice timing of 1 minute and 08.67 seconds for gold medal.
The champion remained 0.19 seconds faster from Tyler, who proved her mettle for silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 08.86 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Ashley McGregor of Pointe-Claire Swim Club, who stayed almost 1.20 seconds apart and occupied bronze medal of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 10.01 seconds.
Similarly, McGregor remained only 0.03 seconds faster from Tera Van Beilen of Oakville Aquatic Club, who settled on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by producing a time of 1 minute and 10.04 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Sarah-Lee Hevey of Camo, who stayed 2.11 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 12.15 seconds.
Hevey was chased by her teammate, Marie-Soleil Jean-Lachapelle, who stayed nearly half body length behind and earned sixth position of the event with an effort of 1 minute and 12.63 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Sherry Patel of Mississauga Aquatic Club, who stayed nearly two strokes apart and touched the finishing wall with the timing of 1 minute and 13.22 seconds.
Patel was followed by Rachael Parsons of Lakeshore Swim Club, who finished her swim in eighth best place by producing a time of 1 minute and 13.38 seconds.
In addition, McCabe was delighted with her title claiming effort in the double lap breaststroke discipline and stated that she will train hard to make a significant improvement in her timings.
