Martha McCabe conquers Women’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day four - 2012 Canada Swimming Cup
Martha McCabe of Pacific Dolphins Swim Club conquered gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on day four of the 2012 Canada Swimming Cup in Montreal on Sunday, July 8.
The 22-year-old McCabe stayed considerably faster from her challengers throughout the discipline and sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
Her immaculate effort placed her in a lead of almost 5 metres over her following swimmer as she tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 26.65 seconds.
Her title-claiming effort remained almost four seconds faster from Ashley McGregor of Pointe-Claire Swim Club, who proved her mettle for silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 30.36 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Tera Van Beilen of Oakville Aquatic Club, who stayed nearly two body lengths apart and earned bronze medal of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 32.20 seconds.
Similarly, Beilen was chased by Sarah-Lee Hevey of Camo, who stayed 0.26 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and reported a time of 2 minutes and 32.46 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Melissa J Lang of Club Wolverine, who stayed almost seven seconds slower from Hevey and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 39.87 seconds.
The 20-year-old Lang was chased by Justine Rheaume of Camo, who stayed 1.03 seconds apart and completed her race in sixth best place by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 40.90 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the race was secured by Eryn Weldon of Greater Ottawa Kingfish Swim Club, who remained only 0.12 seconds slower and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 41.02 seconds.
Weldon was chased by Pascale De Rep-Prud’Homme of Ppo, who secured eighth position of the discipline by ending her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 43.72 seconds.
In addition, McCabe received massive appreciation from the audience for her notable efforts in the breaststroke discipline and stated that she will train hard to improve her timings in future events.
