Her Friesain horse was probably coughing because it probably has heaves(Cronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

Its caused by poor quality hay, mouldy or dusty feed.

Symptoms are coughing when exercising and when exposed to dusty environments. Not being used to hard work and being stabled for long periods of time
