PLEASE:

Explain this problem to me thoroughly.. I know that this may seem simple to you..but this is difficult for me.

Let n = stands for Anton's age in years

P.S.

I do not know how to solve problems like this!!

And how should I fill up the table wherein it states that if Anton was 1 yr old, how old is Martha..then another if Anton was 4 yrs old, how old is Martha..then if Anton was 7 yr old, how old is Martha??

Wah!! help!! and what is a vaiable expression and numerical experssion anyway? huhuh..

  1. if n = Anton's age then

    Martha's age is 24+n. This is so because if anton gets older by 2 years then of course his mother also gets older by 2 years. in other words, the increase in Martha's age is equal to the increase for Anton's age.

    so when Anton is 1 yr old, n = 1 so martha's age is 24+1 = 25

    Anton 4 yrs old, n = 4 so martha's age is 24+4 = 28

    Anton 7 yrs old, n = 7 so martha's age is 24+7 = 31

    variable expression is one that involves variables like x or y (in this question n is a variable so expression like 24+n is a variable expression).

    on the other hand, numerical is one that involves numbers only like 24+7 etc.

    hope this helps. good luck.

  2. x=24+n

    x is Marthas current age.  n is Antons age (1,4 or 7) and 24 was age of Martha at his birth.

    24+1=25

    24+4=28

    24+7=31

    Variable expression is one which has variables (letters instead of numbers)  x=24+n

    Numerical expression is one which has only numbers

    25=24+1

    as for the table... it would be the list on the left (x) would be all the numbers that stand for marthas age in order of anton's age.

    25

    28

    31

    the numbers on the right side (n) would be what was given to you

    1

    4

    7

    that help?

  3. If Martha was 24 when her son was born, she will always be 24 MORE years old than her son, no matter how old he is.  Since "more" means to add, your expression will look like this:

    m = n + 24

    Where "m" is Martha's age, you always add 24 to Anton's age to find hers.

    In a problem with 2 variables, you basically have many pairs of numbers that belong together.  If Anton is 1 yr. old right now, plug in a "1" for your "n":

    m = 1 + 24

    Which means Martha must be 25 at that time.  Now, to find out how old she'll be when Anton is 2, plug in a "2" for his age:

    m = 2 + 24

    Now Martha must be 26, and so on...

    We do this all the time in real life without realizing it.  If you buy 1 package of markers for $4, it'll cost you $4.  If you buy 2 packages, it'll cost you $8 and so on.  You're plugging in the quantity in your head without even thinking about it.

    As far as variable and numerical expressions go....

    Numerical expressions are only made up of numbers because we know exactly what number each should be.

    Variable expressions contain at least one letter, which is used to stand for a number we don't already know, or one that can change (like Anton and Martha's ages).

    Good luck!

  4. martha's age = n + 24

  5. Martha was 24 yrs old when Anton was born. When Anton is 1 yrs old, martha would be 25, when he is 4, martha would be 28 and when he is 7, martha would be 31 yrs old.

    You take the mom's age (that's given) and add one yr for the first age 24 +1= 25

    then do the same for the later ages

    24+4= 28

    24=7=31

  6. YOu have Martha's age at the time her son was born. TO find out her age when he son was 1 year old, you add 24 +1. When he was 4, you add 24+4. DO this for each of the variables requested.
