All you Blackbelts and professionals out there, what do you suggest?

  1. jujitzu is a well-balanced art of fighting, and is more efficient than any other style, and is safer if properly practiced

  2. I personally like Teakwondo. It's a great sport and very fun. It's a more down to earth martial art then some I've seen. It takes a lot of training to become good at it. Some people say that it's not actually useful in a real life self defense situation, but that's true of any martial art if you don't practice and learn it properly.

There is both traditional TKW and sport TWK (the kind at the Olympics)  and most clubs teach both of them. I'm not a black belt myself, I'm on Red Belt...(I can't do 100 push ups yet...) But my sister is a black belt. She gets to compete in state and national competitions all over Australia. She trains three nights a week and is soon adding on two early morning training sessions to that. She works very hard at it, but you can choose to just train the basic 2 or 3 times a week.

The head instructor at my club has a full time job in the mines, but he also runs and trains his TKW club because he loves the sport so much . He used to do boxing and also Rugby and was fairly into them, but out of the three sports he chose TKW as the one which he wanted to focus on.

To get the most out of it you have to find a good club and trainer and really put a lot of effort into it.

The sparing is so much fun...although you have to be prepared to be kicked hard and sometimes in the head...

I can't really think of much else. It's a great sport and martial art. It's so much fun, a challenge and keeps you so fit.

Good luck on your quest to find a martial art to start!

  3. Capital c is correct. Any legitimate person that trains on here will give you the same advice he did.

Here are the steps I would suggest:

    1) Do a search on here about finding a good school. there are many excellent answers about what to look for and what to avoid.

    2) Locate all of the schools in your area, and research what the style's they teach include. You can eliminate a lot of possibilities just by doing this. Say you want weapons for sure, there is no sense even looking at a style or school that doesn't train them. Make sure it is an actual style, not just generic karate or kung fu etc.

    3) Go to each of the schools that you decide to check out and watch at least 2 classes. Compare them to the list you got from the search.

    4) Choose the style that most interests you that has the best instruction and training that you can afford.

Any legitimate style will give you what you want, it's all in how you are taught and how you train. Most styles have the same things, just different variations.

If you can't do the above steps, chances are you will not stick with it very long anyway.

  4. You don't necessarily have to pick one.  You could train MMA at a gym and get an all around discipline.  These gyms work on your striking, grappling and submission.  This might be your best bet to at least get an idea of which you like and don't like

  5. The legitimate will tell you to go check out the schools in your area.  Find an instructor and school that you like and will do well in.  There is no magic bullet in the martial arts - no one style that is more efficient that any other.

Personally, I prefer TKD.  But that is my preference.

Again, check out your local schools.  Talk with the instructors.  If you feel you can learn from them, go for it.

  6. My suggestion is try to find and watching master clips in different arts then answers for yourself which discipline is your favourite

  7. Tae-kwon-do

  8. personally i like karate. There are so many different styles that you could choose from, all of them are different so you're bound to find at least one of them that you love.I practice kyokushin which is the most contact style. We do full-contact kids with equipment and adults without.Just look at the different styles of youtube or find a school where you live.Good Luck! But i'm only a kid so i don't know what you're personally looking for.
