  1. Number one tip is unless you have traine dto do it and conditioned your hand please dont. it's not worth the medical bills.

Just the fact that you have to ask this question is enough to tell me that you will hurt yourself, but that's your choice, you have been warned.

  2. I would like those who say it is not about brick type to try to break an engineered brick.

I prefer to use a sledge hammer.

  3. bricks break easier when they are frozen

they also break easier when you put a half inch or so space between each brick

why do you want to break bricks anyway

"bricks dont hit back"   - Chong Li (Bloodsport)

  4. It's not really about the type of brick more about focusing energy depending on the type of brick breaking you mean.  if it is the simplest kind which is 1 brick to break then it is about striking through the brick however if you have a pile of bricks and you need to break the one in the middle by hitting the top then you have to know how to focus your energy properly and takes years of practice and training.

  5. Don't use 'pavers'.  Don't use the type of bricks that have holes in them.  Both of these types of bricks are made to withstand more pressure (psi) and could severely damage your hand.

Best thing to use are bricks that have been used in buildings.  My Grandmaster likes to go by demolition sites to see if they have any housebricks being discarded for his use.

  6. I'm curious. Are you actively enrolled into a martial schools? If not you shouldn't attempt to break any bricks. You may end u hurting yourself. If it doesn't break it will hurt. I've seen some that didn't break. Those guys were hurting. Some swell right away.

  7. Demolition.  Breaking wood and bricks is called demolition and it is emphasized in certain 'hard' atemi styles of Budo, such TKD, Shotokan, and Shaolin Kung fu.

Usually the bricks are 'kiln dried'.  Or they use roofing tiles.  But rarely the red bricks picked off the street near a construction site.

  8. using a certain type of brick makes no difference with cheating.

focus on your strength in tell yourself you can do it.. and of course you will need to get your strength through the brick and not have it bounced back to you..
