Martial Arts: MMA- Jon Jones a rising star
The New Yorker Jon Jones came to the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) when he was only 20 years old in 2008, he has dominated the UFC by winning 10 fights out of 11 since then. The 6’4” has shown a big heart over his two year career, and is one of the most promising prodigies out of the up-and-coming MMA contenders.
Experts say the 23 year old has a long road ahead of him, although he is already successful in the UFC, which is the most popular organization on the planet. Jones is considered to be one of the most fortunate players because he has yet to face a serious injury in the ring. Some may call it luck but Jon’s fans say the reason he always walks unscathed is because his combination of defence and intellect is uncanny, like Randy Couture and Joe Stevenson, who have more than 40 fights on their resume.
One of the most noted characteristic by Joe is his sheer power, his fans say just ask Matt Hamill ,who Joe lost to last year after he was disqualified for giving an extra thrashing to the Hamill. There fight took place in Las Vegas and Joe left Hamill lifeless on the floor, while thrashing him with his brutal punches. However, Joe lost the fight because he broke the 12-6 elbow rule.
Joe is a growing fighter he has competed against one of the top fighters in the World such as Brandon Vera, Andre Gusmao and is soon to fight against Vladimir Matyushenko, a Belarusian fighter who has won 24 fights out of 28. All these fights with experienced players have taught Jones to adapt and nurture himself to become a better fighter over the years.
Joe has one of the longest reaches in the UFC at 84.5 inches. With that reach, he has taken out most of his opponents by jabs landing on to their faces from far away. In the fight between Joe and Brandon, Joe didn’t worry about Vera’s huge elbow landing on his face anytime, as he took him out by throwing punches from literally two feet away.
Jones is widely recognized by the MMA experts to be an unorthodox striker, he has openly stated that he likes to emulate Anderson Silvas fighting style and by adding his own finesse to it. His peculiar style of fighting has made him a tough contender in the MMA and over time, he perfected his eccentric style of fighting. The young fighter’s elusive and original style with a background of professional wrestling makes him an impossible warrior to handle.
To wrestle his opponent to the ground like superman is something he says he has learnt from his friend and professional MMA fighter Rashad Evans. Jon says he continues to learn from Evans, because he considers him to be one of the greatest fighters.
Experts say while most fighters stop attacking at one point to conserve energy, Jones uses that time to demonstrate his speed, with fake strikes scaring his opponent, while abruptly grasping his opponent slamming them down hard on to the mat. They also insist that John’s speedy strikes and lethal elbows get the best of most fighters.
One of the most important and foremost things fighters learn in MMA is being versatile and how to balance, Joe has demonstrated both well in his previous matchups, his uncanny ability to strike his opponent out by his long brutal jabs and kneeing is audacious. Experts say one of the main tactics to get your opponent off his feet, is to get him out of his best phase, and that is what Jon does best. Critics say it is too early to gauge Jon’s fighting style, although the fact is he has remained consistent throughout and has solidified his style of fighting.
His fans say that he is the Renaissance man, as he can do everything any veteran MMA fighter could do. Jones recently stated in one of his interviews that he plans on growing and joining the heavyweight division, so he could contend with champions like Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin.
MMA purists say John might have lost one fight last year was bittersweet, nonetheless he has a record of 10-1 and is a promising young fighter who keeps improving every year, taking bigger challenges and is certainly a rising star and someday will be remembered as one of the best there was ever to live.
