Question:

Martial Arts Training Area?

by  |  earlier

I have an area outside that I use to practice karate. So far I have a makiwara board and a hanging kicking bag but Id like to add more so when I go to train I have more stuff to work on. I'm more into building my own training equipment so I dont have to spend a few hundred dollars on something I could have just made myself.

Any suggestions on training equipment I can add to my "training ground"? Thanks

  1. Stones!!!

Hang logs vertically and horizontally. You can wrap the logs with rope or the material of your liking that is compatible with conditioning.

    Car and truck tires!

    Big stones!!!

    Truck wheel rims.

Fence poles that have been pulled out and have the concrete foundation still in tact... for practicing throwing techniques.

    Big chains!!!

    Did I mention huge stones??

  2. tire swing....make a double level tire swing it works great for bare knuckle training espesially trains leg kicks well also sam principle as a double end bag just a bigger range of motion more patience is needed....the more tread the better it conditions....

  3. I love the double-end bag myself.  I bought one, but you can make one with a nerf ball, some duct tape, and bungee cords, and it's a wonderful tool for working on defense, timing, speed, and distance.

I've attached a link to a great page that shows you how to make one for about $10-15.

The second link is a video on how/why to use a double-end bag.  In addition to the "boxer" type workout, you can flip the bag and put the ball lower for kicks and leg defense, or you can put 2 balls together - one high, and one low.  This gives a wierd wobble to the bags, but it's another good tool.
