  1. i would go to century martial arts. always go with them because they are very reliable and have very good stuff

    years of martial arts experience

  2. For a 7 year old I would get as much protection as possible.  My son is 6, and I see him and his classmates get a little wild and throw kicks with their toes out, feet at odd angles, etc. when they spar. This could lead to a broken toe if it hits a knee or elbow just right.  Combine that with the sharp / unkempt toenails some kids have and I definitely go for the full coverage footgear and separate shin pads.

Century Martial Arts makes the typical foam-dipped gear that is great for kids - affordable, durable, and in youth/child sizes.

Once he gets bigger, stronger, and more skilled you can move him up into more advanced gear from Fairtex, Throwdown, etc. but for now Century should be just great.  Link to the sparring gear page below.

One bit of advice - print a picture of the gear you like and show his instructor.  Just to make sure it's acceptable in class.  Some instructors have a discount, too -  if you order through the school you may save 5-10%.

    Hope that helps!

  3. I myself prefer just the shin and that's what I use but most people like the added protection that one gives the instep with the shin/instep type and that's what I would go with for him.  Catching an elbow on the instep hurts a lot for most people and that's what the added protection is for.

  4. Be careful that you choose the right school; that is, if it's for self defense.

  5. Tao has given you a great answer. You should try Century. Speak to your instructor before you buy. Most of us get a discount when we order.

  6. Shin pads with foot protection are vailable. I have a pair myself. I can't rember where our school got them. I believe they are a standard item in the catalog we use.  I found them here. http://www.karate-mart.com/msg002.html
