Martial arts question????

A friend of mine recently told me in "Kung Fu" there are hand signs used, like "Bull", he then made the gesture, it didn't look like anything I have seen. He said you make some of the signs before you perform the technique. I have studied martial arts for many years, mostly styles like WuShu (todays version, not traditional), Hsing-I, Wing Ching, but I don't know of any signs of animals that are ever performed. Does anyone know about this? Is it some form of Mudra or something? Can someone explain this and send me a link to some info?

  1. go see the movie kung fu panda

you will see all those moves

  2. Those are Buddhist mudras that some traditional kung fu styles still practice for tradition. Heres the definition: In Buddhism and Hinduism, a symbolic gesture of the hands and fingers used in ceremonies, dance, sculpture, and painting. Hundreds of mudras are used in ceremony and dance, often in combination with movements of the wrists, elbows, and shoulders. In ceremonies, especially in Buddhism, a mudra acts as a kind of seal, affirming a mystical or magical vow or utterance, such as a prayer to ward off evil. A mudra often accompanies the utterance of a mantra.

  3. u usually dont do a mudra before a technique, sounds like your friend is either pulling your leg or has cracked it, either way its a load of ****

  4. maybe your friend doesn't know martial arts. probably got it from a movie or something
