I understand that fights are ugly, i've not really been in very many first hand, though I have taken some karate and kick boxing classes so we spar alot in there. What i'm wanting to know is, whats a good "effective" martial art that doesent involve flailing around or floping all over the ground. I know it doesent look like the movies, so dont even mention that, but what about something that involves standing up, and taking down your opponent in 1 or 2 movements. Don't say any grappling techniques, thats goes under the floping on the ground catagory. Like something that can go from a relaxed casual position, to a punch relativly quick. Also, no Aikido either, it really doesent help that much. Thanks guys.

  1. you don't seem to get it. this is about winning if you're into sports. or surviving in a street self defense situation. not what you look like while doing it. period.

  2. Judo. If you know your stuff, you'll be throwing people like rag dolls with barely any effort. Its really fun to train in too.

  3. First you have to quit pre-judging things you do not understand.  Anything may be of value in a real fight because real fights don't have scripts and they can happen anywhere.  You could get knocked down to the ground from behind right away, now you're flopping on the ground and you didn't want to learn flopping on the ground so you are going to die.

  4. Any sort of martial art or fighting style looks nice and works well if used correctly. I think you are just a jelly armed q***r.

  5. Personally, my whole goal in my training is to minimize the appearance of any techniques, so it looks accidental. Other than that, I can't see why anyone should care what they look like so long as the job gets done.

Since you have a laundry list of things that are uncool in your opinion, consider looking at the wikipedia list of martial arts (or just your local phonebook listings) and watch videos of it being done on youtube. Yes, you'll see generally the worst of what's being done, but it'll give you some idea of what it's like. Then, make up your own mind.

  6. Uhhhhhh........ Ninjutsu, Hapkido, Judo, and Maharlika Kuntaw?

  7. Japanese Jiu-jitsu I'd suggest it's the real deal if trained correctly.

    Best wishes :)***

  8. Tai chi maybe

  9. karate and kickboxing dont flop around on the ground...

nor do you flail unless you are really bad even white belts dont normally flail sure people before they get a gi and belt do and kids under 10 do but otherwise i have never seen it...

  10. Tai Chi Chuan! is really good! you dont even need to be strong to do this martial arts, its all about using someones strength against them and locking and breaking there joints.
