  1. With all due respect to Katana, the proper expression is nut-HUGGER, because they're embracing their particular martial art or artist

That said, I agree with everything else in his statement.

Go forth and observe and then make your choice.

  2. Gracie Jiu Jitsu is highly recommended. Google Royce Gracie-The Legend.

  3. Take some form of karate if that's what your looking for.

They teach you a lot of stuff.

Taekwondo is more....kicks...and flips...and showy stuff.

    Kung fu......is............kung fu...

and where the h**l do you find ninjitsu?

    Also....

Muy thai has weapons in it....sorry to dissapoint.

  4. For me it has to be bjj or mma.

  5. You could start now it's never too late for martial arts i got my black belt it took me 7 years. I would say to do kung fu or taekwondo.

  6. I would say Ninjutsu but the chances of you having a real Bujinkan dojo near you are slim. After that the only one I have training in is Tae Kwon Do which will build your strength, flexibility, response time, stronger punches, and good self defense. If you can find a Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu dojo nearby then TAKE IT!

  7. hi!

any of these will meet the objectives that you want:

    karate,taekwondo, kung fu & ninjitsu.

however, as i took ninja-do before, i belive ninjitsu & kung fuwill include some weapons traning which makes them slightly different from the rest.

    cheers!

  8. bjj or mma

  9. any one that tickles your fancy and likes

    it's like any hobby.

    you do what you enjoy.

just check out a few classes round your area and choose from that.

  10. i would probably go for judo for what you are looking for

  11. Ok so the UFC nut grabbers are out in force on this one. I guess they are so hopped up on recommending the two main UFC styles BJJ/Muya thai that they do not realize part of your question said you wanted weapons, neither of which these address. Also their have been a few of quizes on BJJ/Muay Thai/Okinawan karate and just basic striking techniques that any competent beginner should be able to answer, none of which any of the people that responded in your thread have answered, except for me. Ironically the same 10-14 people have pretty much answered in each one of them. That should show you the number of posers on here, both MMA and traditional.

As for your question all of the styles you have listed train weapons as well as empty hand, however you are more likely to get weapons training in an Okinawan style of karate as opposed to a Japanese style. Any of these arts if taught well and trained correctly are good for self defense. BJJ/Judo/Muay Thai are all excellent styles, but none of them address weapons.

the Filipino martial arts like Kali and Escrima have weapons also.

Beware of schools offering Ninjitsu classes, as I do not believe there are that many qualified instructors around. Make sure you research the background on these carefully.

    My advice is to:

    1) Make a list of everything that is availible in your area. be aware that there should actually be a style name for Kung fu or Karate schools, such as Shorin-ryu, that the school trains. If there is not pass on it, as it is probably a made up sport style.

    2) Research what each of these styles teaches. You can immedietly throw out the ones that don't teach weapons.

    3) Search on here for questions about finding a good instructor and school, as there are already many great answers.

    4) Visit each school and watch a minimum of two classes, and compare them to the list, and ask questions that you will also find in the search.

    5) Pick the best school, that trains the most realisticly, regardless of style. A style and the moves in it are just a tool, how they are used and trained determines how effective they are.

Better a little weaker style that trains well then the best style in the world that doesn't right?

Edit for Phil J- Nut HUGGER got it my friend.

Edit for bujinakan Ninja- How many styles do you claim to train? 8? wow thats impressive. I would really think that if you trained that many styles and had that much experience that you would know that no where in the United states do you have to register as lethal, no matter how much training you have. Yet you think that you have to register in Florida as a yellow belt in TKD?

If you are that messed up on something so simple why should anyone trust anything else you have to say?

  12. ninjitsu
