Martin Alund loses to Rogerio Dutra Silva in first round – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
On November 14, 2011, the men’s singles first round matches kept the audiences entertained at the 2011 Uruguay Open as Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva defeated Martin Alund of Argentina in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Silva did not have a good start his first set on a positive note, as he did not score any ace but his off-target shots forced him to concede four double faults. Alund did not deliver any ace either, but he only conceded a double
fault once in the set.
Both players were almost equal in terms of first serve winning ratio as Alund secured a 58% rate wile Silva had a 55% winning ratio. The 27-year old Silva won 76% points from his first serve as compared to 42% points won by Alund
on his first serves.
Silva’s serves reduced greatly during his second serves as he could only manage to win 36% points. The Argentinean won 50% points from his second serve and remained a bit higher with his serves in scoring points.
The Brazilian saved two out of his three breakpoints while Alund could only win two out of the five breakpoints that he faced. Although Silva gave many points to his opponent with his double faults, but it was the Brazilian himself
who retained the lead of three sets. Silva won the first set 6-3.
With the second set in progress, Silva tried to keep the lead as he delivered two aces and this time, he did not concede any double faults.
He played with a watchful eye on his service games as he had a 60% first serve winning rate. Alund was close with 59% first serve winning rate but his service games were not enough to keep him in the lead.
Alund, ranked at the 249th place in the world, won 64% points from his first serve and only 33% from his second. Silva, who ranks at world number 122nd spot, won 80% from his first serves and won 60% from
his second. The Brazilian played all his service games more maturely than Alund, which is why he could retain the lead in the second set.
Silva could save two out of the three breakpoints he faced while Alund was able to save four out of the six breakpoints that he saved.
The Brazilian remained in the lead in both sets, because of his higher experience in the ATP division. Silva has a win/loss ratio of 113/96. On the other hand, Alund has won only forty-five matches and lost seventy-five. Silva
won the second set 6-3 and cruised into the next round of the tournament.
