Martin Amis: Money has anyone read it?

what is so great about this book tht i was recommended to read it its was boring at times and i really wonder why its a popular book pls who ever read it tell me why u enjoyed reading it

  1. I've read it and thought it wasn't too bad

    It is kind of stuck in the zeitgeist of the 1980's but Amis is fairly clever in whole destruction of the Self approach and its full of literary tricks like inserting himself into the piece as a character, major head-standing plot twists (turns out that Self isn't Self at all) and character names that jerk the reader out of the story (Spunk Davies?) with their ridiculousness

    John Self is a total consumer burning through money and gorging himself on his grossest desires and Amis makes reading the book with him as the narrator a deliberately unpleasant experience.

    Its funny in places and it can read as a kind of an indictment of the rapacious capital greed of the 1980's but I think Amis is more enamored of that time than critical of it

    And this last few years he seems to have gone all arch-Conservative for some reason being now prone to bizarre anti-Muslim ranting
