Martin Boudreau, Isabelle Cauchon clear quarter-finals of Canadian Masters Badminton Championships
Mixed Doubles pair Martin Boudreau-Isabelle Cauchon made its cut into semi-finals of Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships after overpowering Ernest Nketiah-Virginia Chariandy Balwant in quarter-final on May 9, 2012.
This 27-minute tussle got resolved in three sets with final figures of 6-21, 21-17 and 22-20.
The partnership of Martin and Isabelle struggled bit in the start but found lost chemistry in last two games and secured the honour to be in top four teams of the event.
On the other hand, the opposing team Ernest Nketiah-Virginia Chariandy took off in perfect manner but crashed in final stages of match.
The Canadian couple Martin-Isabelle will now put their skills in test by facing second seed pair Elliott Beals-Shirley Thomson in semi-finals.
Earlier in quarter-final match, the twosome of Ernest and Virginia completely outclassed their challengers in opening game. They played with right attitude and fortitude to fetch best results.
In first half, they controlled overall pace of the rallies and got into authoritative position without wasting any time. They placed a decent margin of 11 points to enter in mid-game interval as leading team.
After one-minute break they dictated their opponents all the way to game point situation. The duo Ernest-Virginia swept the board with a commendable 15-point advantage in final total of 21-16.
However, they could not carry the same rhythm in following game as their competitors Martin-Isabelle stormed back into match with a staggering performance.
In the beginning, they were under burden of first set loss but soon they gained confidence with positive stroke play. They managed a slight edge over their rivals until one-minute break.
After interval, few consecutive points magnified the impact and the local duo levelled match score with respectable total of 21-17.
This development brought life back into match as both contenders put all in their possession to cast out the opponent in decider.
Mixed Doubles partners Ernest and Virginia, who belong to Canada and Trinidad and Tobago respectively, strived hard to rise against the natives and chased them until last shot was played.
The final result of 22-20 booked tickets to home for them and granted permit to Martin-Isabelle to continue race for glory.
