Martin Brundle calls Fernando Alonso hero of 2012 Formula 1 season so far – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Martin Brundle has called Fernando Alonso of Ferrari his hero in the 2012 F1 season so far.
Alonso is currently at the top of drivers’ rankings with 164 points and has efficiently restricted the probable setbacks for his team which expected to suffer during the first few grands prix. Moreover, he has performed amazingly well in the first half of
the season and is the only driver who has scored three race victories.
It will be important to mention that he has been deemed as one of the most competent and talented drivers in this year’s championship battle as he has performed impressively well even with an uncompetitive car. Furthermore, he has been considered as the
most favourite driver in the title fight and has got the potential to win his third championship this year.
Brundle said that it is extremely difficult to be a race driver while he said that Michael Schumacher of Mercedes has had quite a struggling first half of the current season.
“I don’t like [saying] that sort of thing because I know how hard being an F1 driver is. Michael Schumacher has had a pretty grim year,” he admitted to the Sun newspaper.
However, the Briton admired the performance of the Spaniard in the season until now who has shown an inspiring pace regardless of facing difficulties with the car’s setup during the start. In addition, he said that the two-time world champion has delivered
a tremendous performance even after not getting any support from his teammate, Felipe Massa who has been seen struggling with his form.
“It [the hero] must be Alonso because against all odds, and without a teammate helping him out, and not having a fast car on the track, somehow he keeps coming through and winning races,” he said.
Nevertheless, it is to be noted that nothing can be projected about the season ahead as the competition is very tough. Over and above, it will be exciting to see whether Alonso will be able to maintain his lead in the championship fight after the mid-season
break or not.
