Martin Brundle insists Fernando Alonso needs Felipe Massa to win championship title – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Martin Brundle has said that Fernando Alonso of Ferrari needs his teammate, Felipe Massa to help him out in winning the 2012 F1 World Championship title.
Alonso has shown terrific performance in the season so far and has efficiently managed to limit the probable setbacks for his team which expected to suffer in the opening few races. Moreover, he is standing at the top of the drivers’ championship with 164
points and has scored three grands prix victories in the first half of the season.
Furthermore, it will be important to mention here that he has a strong lead over his major rivals, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
On the other hand, Massa has only scored 25 points in the first eleven races as he has been facing some issues in finding his true pace.
Even though, the Spaniard has been considered as the most competent and talented driver in the field, nevertheless, Brundle believes that he will require support from the Brazilian driver to maintain his lead in the drivers’ rankings.
The British commentator said that Massa can help the two-time world champion by taking the points off from the major contenders which include Red Bull, McLaren and Lotus in the forthcoming races.
"I think Alonso's going to have to rely on Red Bull and McLaren and Lotus taking points off each other and he needs (Felipe) Massa to get in and help him by taking points off his main rivals," Brundle told Sky Sports News.
Besides, he said that he has no doubts on the abilities of the 31-year old driver and called him his most favourite driver in this year’s championship battle. However, he asserted that the competition is very tough and Alonso should receive support from
his beleaguered team fellow.
"I think Alonso's obviously got a big head start points wise but I don't think it's a dead cert by any means," the Briton insisted.
It will be exciting to see how the Scarlet team performs in the Belgian GP which is going to be held at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend.
