Martin Clawson seals a three-year-deal with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats – Rugby League
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats announced today, October 1 that Martin Clawson has signed a three-year contract as the clubs strength and conditioning coach.
Clawson has extensive experience of serving in the same capacity for Crusader RL from 2002 to 2009 under the leadership of Brian Noble. Prior to his joining with the Wildcats, Clawson was filling in as the fitness coach with Barrow Raiders. The one year
assignment was under Garry Schofield while the assistant coach, Nigel Wright, was not available.
Clawson was picked by Schofield because he had proven himself the best in his field which was visible from his ten years’ stint at Crusaders.
As coach, Clawson’s profile boasts three World Club Challenge Cups, two Super League titles and one Challenge Cup.
Clawson’s experience in the strength and conditioning field inspired James Elston, Chief Executive of Wakefield, a great deal and led to his uptake by the franchise.
While speaking about Clawson’s new deal, Elston stated,
“Martin has a proven track record of getting teams to have that competitive edge. His CV speaks for itself.”
High hopes are attached with Clawson’s recruitment and it has been expected that he will take the franchise to new territory. Wildcats are currently floating on the bottom of the League hierarchy but were given an unexpected Super League license until 2013
when the Crusaders withdrew from the licensing process. The Crusaders pulled themselves out of the Super League licensing process just a day prior to the announcement of the fourteen Super League teams for the next three years, Wildcats managed to grab the
final available spot.
Currently, the franchise is on a hiring spree to improve their otherwise dull chances of moving up the hierarchy and it has been all about fresh recruits to the squad during the past one month.
Clawson has always been the top priority of recruiters because of his output. When he was taken on board by Barrow, the head coach stated that they had grabbed the best in the field, under which the players will not only enjoy but also benefit from his unique
style of coaching.
The basic philosophy behind Clawson’s training, is to hone his players to achieve physical strength such that they are able to easily sail through the rigours of rugby.
