Martin Demichelis nears Bayern exit
Bayern Munich’s central defender Martin Demichelis is set to leave the club, in wake of recent differences between the player and Bayern Coach Louis Van Gaal.
During Bayern’s 3-0 win over Hannover in the German Bundesliga, Van Gaal opted to substitute injured centre back Daniel Van Buyten with a holding midfielder, Anatoliy Tymoshchuk. Introduction of Demichelis instead, would have been
a like for like substitution for the injured Van Buyten, but the Dutch manager made it clear from his decision that the 29 year old Argentinean will not be playing a big role in the coach’s plan for future matches.
Martin has spent seven years at the Bavarian club since joining the club in 2003, but now, poor relationship with his manager has made him weigh his options for a move elsewhere.
Since the news of his sour relations with the manager surfaced, top European clubs have been reported to be in contention for acquiring the services of the Bayern defender.
English teams including Chelsea and Liverpool are known to be interested in Demichelis, while the Italian heavyweights Juventus also are keen on taking the Argentinean to Turin. Sevilla also are in line to lure the player to Spain.
The player’s agent sparked the discussion of his transfer by issuing a statement saying, “With Van Gaal there is no feeling and several clubs are interested in him. Juventus are one of them but there are some clubs in England and
Spain. The price? It’s early to say it, I must first speak with Bayern Munich.”
Liverpool who are desperately in need of restructuring their squad, after a disastrous start to the season, will be happy to see the Argentinean in their defensive ranks. Meanwhile, Chelsea have been reported to be the early movers
in the market as the London club seems serious in buying the big central defender. The Blues are currently a bit short on defensive options after the departure of their dependable central defender, Ricardo Carvalho to Real Madrid this summer. With a long season
ahead, and Chelsea fighting for top spot in domestic and European competitions, the English champions will relish the strength and experience Demichelis brings with him to the squad.
Although Martin has decided to leave the German champions, he will have to wait untill the winter transfer window opens, for a transfer deal to materialize between the Bavarian giants and any of the interested clubs.
