Martin Emmrich shocks Daniel Kosakowski to reach main draw – Tallahassee Tennis Challenger 2012 CH
German contender, Martin Emmrich, upset the qualifying third seed, Daniel Kosakowski, in straight sets at the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger 2012 on Sunday. He jolted down a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the 20-year-old to secure a place in the main draw at this
hard court event which is part of ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour 2012.
Emmrich showed solid tennis to stun the world number 347 in straight sets in an hour and 25-minute long marathon. After earning this spotlight, the German confidently advanced into the first round at this Challenger tour event held in Tallahassee, Florida.
The left-handed German entered the Forestmeadows Tennis Complex with poise and plucked his serve in the first game. He then fired precise shots down the line to keep his entire serves. Emmrich cashed in the lone break opportunity in the last game to get
the breakthrough and bag the opener with a 6-4 win.
The 27-year-old maintained consistency in his game in the proceeding set and swiftly pocketed his entire serves without facing any barrier. He capitalised on two out of four break chances to earn the glory by winning six games to two.
Overall, Emmrich committed more double faults but manipulated a slightly higher first serve share of 61 per cent as compared to the American’s 58 per cent. He also superbly clicked 25 out of 31 points on it and mustered the match by smashing three aces.
The in-form German will square off against the seventh seed, Rogerio Dutra Da Silva, in the first round.
Qualifying sixth seed, Artem Sitak of New Zealand, faced a better fate. He stomped over the local star, Ty Trombetta, in straight sets to occupy this spot.
Ranked 424th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Sitak high-spiritedly entered the opening set and held his entire serves after brushing off both breakpoints he faced. He capitalised on one out of two break opportunities and
pulled out the opener with a 6-4 win.
The 26-year-old kept momentum running in the following set and after cashing in one out of seven break chances to clinch the set with a 6-3 score line.
