Martin Fischer dumps Florian Reynet in the final round qualies – Suisse Open Gstaad 2011
Seeded at number three in the qualifying draws, Martin Fischer of Austria stood victorious against the seventh seeded French, Florian Reynet, in the final round qualifiers of Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad, being played at the Credit Agricole Arena in Gstaad, Switzerland, on Sunday afternoon.
The Austrian competitor had no real difficulty in disposing off his opponent in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, taking one hour and twenty nine minutes of play to qualify for the main draws of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament in Gstaad.
Fischer, who has not dropped a single in the qualifying rounds, continued his ballistic form in the Sunday’s contest as well and took down his opponent without much trouble from him. The Austrian was phenomenal with bagging crucial points on regularity and gave away minimum chances to his opponent to capitalize.
The opening set took off with cautious tennis from both men but gradually Fischer gathered up pace in the match to finish on the winning note. Although the Austrian serve reached just 50 per cent precision in the opening set, Fischer reeled off 10 out of 12 first serve points to remain on top of the game. Reynet met his opponent’s fury with good aggressive tennis at the start but tend to lose his focus in the later parts of the game. The French competitor secured 11 out of 17 first serve points in the opener but serve breaks from his rival wore him out in the game later.
The Austrian drew first blood in the fourth game of the opener to break into a 4-1 lead after holding serve in the next game. Fischer played calculated strokes with commanding aggression but his baseline defence was finally breached by Reynet in the seventh game, when the French registered his first serve break of the day to reduce the deficit, only to be broken in the very next game. Fischer raced away to 6-3, clinching the first set with ease and carried on his winning impetus in the following set as well.
The second set took off with a series of serve breaks from both men to take the scores to 4-4. Fischer’s third serve break of the set proved deadly for Reynet, as the Austrian cruised to victory at 6-4, getting a pass to the main draws of the tournament. Fischer will play on Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the first round of the main draws of Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad.
