Martin Gethin grabs easy win over Stuart Green via technical knockout – Boxing news
Martin Gethin, the former two-time BBBC English lightweight champion, grabbed a second-round technical knockout win over fellow countryman Stuart Green, the incumbent BBBC Scottish Area light welterweight champion, in a 10-round bout held on May 12, 2012.
The duo headlined the Saturday night pay-per-view promoted by P.J. Rowson of First Team Promotions and the ring for the showdown was set up at Town Hall arena in Walsall, West Midlands, United Kingdom.
From the very beginning of the bout, it was predicted that Martin will emerge out as the victor since he possessed a pretty intimidating resume as compared to Stuart.
Gethin, 28, was entering the ring for the 26th time and boasted 21 wins. He has lost just three bouts and has nailed eight of his opponents by knockout. The orthodox pugilist was on a six-bout win streak since his three consecutive loss streak.
The West Midland proud was coming from an easy fourth round technical knockout win over rookie Csaba Torma. His Saturday night opponent, Stuart, exhibited a seriously tarnished resume.
Green, 27, was in his 30th career bout and was able to emerge victorious in just 17. In addition, he has not collected even a single win by knockout and therefore substantially lacks the ability to throw a powerful jab.
The Scottish proud has received a huge 12 losses in his career and was coming from a two-bout win streak. In his last two bouts, Green nailed Patrick Liam Walsh and Gary McArthur on point basis.
From the very first second, Martin set the pace and continued to dominate till the end of the bout. During the first round, due to an inadvertent head-collision Gethin received a cut over the right eye but this did not halt his performance.
The bout entered the second round and Martin moved in abruptly connecting a huge right hand that rattled Green. Gethin continued to pound Green so much so that blood started to gush out of Stuart’s mouth.
It was that very moment when Green decided to pull back and accept the defeat. After the swift and easy win, Martin remarked, “I think I shocked myself. I felt so good in there, relaxed and as soon I started throwing punches I knew they were going to come
off. That result has topped everything because it proves I have come back as good as I was before.”
Martin, who is now scheduled to take on Tommy Coyle, the current BBBC English lightweight champion, stated, “I have upped myself now and, whoever comes next, they will feel a few of my shots and fall over!”
With this win, Gethin has improved his stats to 22 wins with nine via KO and Green, unfortunately, has received his career’s 13th loss.
