Martin Giuffre beats Nathan Lee to claim Men’s Singles title at OUA Badminton Championships 2012
Canada’s Martin Giuffre proved his elevated skills as he claimed Men’s Singles title after beating his compatriot Nathan Lee in the final showdown of OUA Badminton Championships 2012, in Canada, on Sunday, March 18.
Martin played remarkable badminton throughout the tournament and continued his sensational run in the final as well when he played with precision and outplayed his rival in a thrilling three-set encounter.
On the other hand, Nathan delivered a good performance in the first set but failed to continue his winning run and lost the following both sets and eventually lost the match in rubber games.
In the first set, Martin could not play positive badminton as his challenger was everywhere in the court.
He failed to find a good flow in the opening half and remained far behind on the score board until the 60-second break.
After the interval, Nathan continued his power play in the game as his rival was not playing to his maximum potential.
Martin could not produced positive form in the opening game and lost it with a one-sided score of 11-21.
However, in the second set, Martin changed his game plan and geared up his speed in all areas of the court. He did not show any sign of slowing down the pace of rallies this time and managed a reasonable lead until the interval.
After the break, he continued his dominating play in the second set and did not let his opponent to fight back in the game.
Martin managed to win the set in an authoritative manner with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Nathan dropped down his speed as he failed to match the pace of rallies.
On the other hand, Martin was in commanding position as he dictated the pace of rallies with a wonderful ease. He was quite comfortable in taking the bird early and manipulated all loopholes of his rival.
Martin did not face any trouble in the deciding set and bagged it with an incredible score of 21-8.
This three-set final contest ended in the favour of Martin who emerged as the winner with an interesting 11-21, 21-16 and 21-8 score on the board.
