Martin Gould aims for big title wins ahead in new season: 2012 UKPTC Event 2
England’s Martin Gould performed tremendously in the 2012 UK Players Tour Championship (UKPTC) Event 2 and was able to claim the event title after putting an end to Stephen Maguire’s run in the final by the score line of 4-3.
The clash was quite tussling and both potters played up to the best of their snooker skills. Gould has grabbed first title of his new snooker season campaign and is aiming to make an appearance in the upcoming snooker events as well.
While speaking to World Snooker after his victory, Gould said, “It feels amazing to win a tournament with ranking points for the first time. My aim now is to win some big titles. Last week I started working with a coach called Stephen Feeney who has done
a lot for the likes of Mark Davis and Stuart Bingham.”
Gould was impressive at the baize in the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester and was competitive with comparatively experienced Maguire who grabbed the first event of UKPTC beating England’s Jack Lisowski. However, Gould was aware of his abilities and
proceeded sensibly from the start to tackle difficult situations that Maguire put him in.
The Englishman started his new season campaign with his first round match in the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event but could not move further and crashed out of the event. He learned from his mistakes and did reach the quarter-final stage of the 2012 Australian
Goldfields Open where he lost to Mark Davis. Since then, the Englishman has been practising hard and has improved his game which paid off for him in the UKPTC2.
He added, “The improvement has been beyond my expectation and every time I was among the balls this week I felt as if I was going to clear up. I lost a lot of close matches at the end of last season and I realise now that was because of the problem with
my sighting and cue action.”
He will be aiming to prove his class in the upcoming 2012 World Snooker European Tour 2 Stage 1 where he is up against Ricky Walden in the first round.
