Martin Gould whitewashes Jamie Jones in 2011 Players Tour Championship Grand Finals – Snooker news
The Pinner Potter, Martin Gould, has whitewashed the Welshman, Jamie Copes, by a frame score of 4-0 in the best-of-seven round 1 of the 2011 Players Tour Championship Grand Finals held at Helix, Dublin, Ireland.
The 29-year-old, Gould, produced a magnificent play including a superb century break of 106 in the third frame. The overall score line was 10-72, 16-59, 20-106 and 24-99.
The 23-year-old, Jones, who lost against Dave Harold in the third round of the 2011 World Championship by a frame score of 10-9, has crashed again in the first round.
In the opening frame, Gould was the first to be among the balls but he could not clinch the frame in his first visit, breaking down on 22. Jones got three chances to be on the table afterwards but he could only manage 10 points in total until a classy break
of 50 from Gould wrapped up the first one.
In the second frame, Gould rolled in a break of 41 before giving a chance to his opponent but he was lucky to get back on the table as Jones again broke down on 15 and Gould added 18 more to lead by 2-0.
The third frame was over within a blink of an eye. Jones was on a run first but he once again lost his nerves after a break of 20 and when the chance presented itself, Gould slotted a mind-boggling match high century break of 106 to leave Jones three frames
down with four to play.
Gould lost control of his emotions in the fourth frame to give an early chance. However, Jones still could not register himself in the frame, breaking down on 23 and finally Gould finished the matters off with a couple of quickfire 31 and 42 to seal a comfortable
victory by 4-0.
Jamie Jones got enough chances but before he could get his momentum, it was all over.
Martin Gould, who recently qualified for the upcoming world championship after beating Robert Milkins by 10-6, has now set up a clash with Judd Trump in the last 16 of the competition which has a prize money of 60,000 pounds for the winner.
