Having scored three consecutive half-centuries in the on-going Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 opening batsman, is disappointed not to have converted his starts into big knocks.
Guptill, 25, scored 97 and 67 in the Antigua Test and followed it up by a brilliant half-century on day one at Jamaica, although the Kiwis could only manage 260 runs in their first innings, before being dismissed in the 83rd over of the day.
The Black Caps have gone through a slump in international cricket over the last couple of years; however, the batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 has been a ray of hope and is expected to bear the burden of Kiwi batting in the years to come.
The right-handed batsman is delighted with his performance in Tests, after a poor limited-overs series last month. The positive thing for New Zealand cricket is that the opener is hungry for runs and wants to score centuries instead of fifties.
"It's always nice to score a few runs, but I want more than that. Sixties, seventies and nineties aren't good enough," the opening batsman said. "If we want to perform well as a team going forward, we need hundreds."
The youngster has so far played 23 Tests and 65 ODIs for his country, scoring more than 3500 runs, including four international hundreds. The tall batsman is expected to play a massive role for the Black Caps in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012, which will be held
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in September/October, if they are to do well in the mega event.
Guptill further added that a high level of concentration is required in international cricket and he must improve on this facet of the game, if he wants to regularly do well for New Zealand.
"That's the nature of cricket - you lose concentration for one ball and that's your downfall," the budding youngster added.
At stumps on day one of the second Test, the home team had scored 11 runs without any loss. It is a must win encounter for the Kiwis, if they want to regain some pride at the end of a disastrous tour.
