Martin Guptill ready to bat anywhere for New Zealand
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 batsman Martin Guptill has said that he is ready to bat at any position in the line-up.
In the ongoing home series against Pakistan, Guptill has opened the innings for the Kiwis in all formats of the game and has done reasonably well.
Guptill said, “It was extremely difficult. You feel like everything is running against you, whether it be on or off the field. You beat yourself up inside, trying to get that confidence, and it just doesn't work.”
The opener added, “You've got to try and stay as confident as possible and hopefully the results come from that. I just went back and had a look at what I was doing well and what I wasn't, and just started doing the little things right.”
Following his poor performances, Guptill was dropped from the national side. He made 85 runs in five games against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, he only managed 11 runs in three innings.
In addition, he was not picked for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, where his team was whitewashed in the limited overs series. However, he was included in the team for the Indian tour, where he participated in the second Test match, scoring 85 on his return.
He added, “The first week in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 I started to get that confidence back. I think it was after the second training before the first Test, I started seeing the ball well and hitting the ball well, and from there I went to the second Test and got that 85.
From there I think I've been on quite a high and hopefully it goes well for another couple of years.”
However, the Kiwi willower fared well in the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan, amassing 163 runs at an impressive average of 40.
In the first One-dayer against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Guptill came as an opener and scored an unbeaten 40 in the chase of a paltry 125-run total, steering his team to victory by nine wickets.
Currently, the home side is leading the six-match series by 1-0 with four more games to play. Only four overs were possible in the second encounter, as rain washed out the whole day.
The third game will be played at the AMI Stadium, on 29 January, 2011. The series is going to be the last opportunity for both the teams to prepare themselves for the upcoming ICC World Cup.
