New Zealand’s opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
“Yeah, a little bit [disappointed at having got out at after getting a start],” Guptill admitted after the end of play on the first day (August 31). “It's a little bit frustrating, but that is the way it goes. Sometimes you go on to make a big score and
sometimes you go only half way there, but I am trying to make sure that doesn't happen in the next few Test matches.”
A promising batsman, with 1565 runs from the 25 Test matches he has played for the national team, Guptill’s inability to maintain an element of consistency and apply himself at the crease after getting a start has been one of the major flaws in his game.
So far in his career, Guptill has only managed 2 Test centuries, while he has been restricted to a half-century 11 times, in addition to having registered several frustrating scores such as 48, 49, and 97. The ongoing Test series against India has seen him
continuing in a similar vein.
The first Test at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 witnessed a complete Kiwi batting order collapse, during which Guptill contributed scores of 2, and 16. However, the team managed to turn their fortunes around in the second Test, adopting an attacking stance which enabled them
to post a first innings total of 365.
Opening for the side, Guptill contributed an individual total of 53, in addition to setting up a steady 63-run stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PP-Ojha-c2198 (who claimed 5 for 99 during New Zealand’s first innings), managed to dislodge the 25-year-old
right-hander in the 24th over – attempting a full shot, Guptill mishit it to midwicket where http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 was waiting to receive it.
However, despite his disappointing performance, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kruger-van-Wyk-c1811 (71), managing to reach 365 before they were all out by the 91st
over today on Day 2.
