http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, in the second ODI played at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, October 22, 2011.
Guptill’s second ODI century helped Kiwis chase down a competitive total of 259 for the loss of six wickets in 48.2 overs. The 25-year-old, who won the Man of the Match award, scored 105 runs from 121 deliveries, while Brendon
McCullum supported him well by scaling 87 runs in their partnership of 157.
Acknowledging McCullum’s contribution, Guptill said, “McCullum and I complement each other very well and we put on a good stand today. I would love to do take the good form forward and do well in different conditions and pitches.”
Guptill has been a headache for the Zimbabwean bowling brigade on this tour. The batsman has notched 179 runs from two ODI games and still looks hungry for more. McCullum’s case is pretty much the same, the wicket-keeper averages
126, however he is yet to score a century on this tour.
Expecting McCullum to get a big one in the next game, New Zealand skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 said, “Brendon missed out on a ton today and I'm sure he'll want it in the next match.”
Taylor was content with the performance of his side; however, the Kiwi skipper said that they lost the plot near the end and it would have been nice had they won the game a little earlier.
“We stuttered a little bit in the end. We would have loved to finish it off a little more professionally but we will take this. McKay bowled well today though he did not do too badly in the first game. Guptill played very well
too,” said Kiwi captain.
Earlier in the day, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-John-McKay-c44446, who was a bit rusty in the first game, made up for that in this game by taking four wickets and restricting Zimbabwe to 259.
The third and final match of the series will be played on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. The Rhodesians will be hoping to restore some pride by handing New Zealand a defeat in the final game.
