Martin Jaite appointed as the new Argentine Davis Cup captain – Tennis News
Argentina announced their new Davis Cup coach on Friday December 16th and Martin Jaite is the new man in charge to guide Argentina to their first Davis Cup title in 2012. It will be interesting to see how this man tackles
with the crisis situation at the board and brings everyone to a single platform with a focused aim of winning the Davis Cup next year.
Jaite knew that he had a tough task at his hands but was happy to have been opted as the captain of the Argentinean Davis Cup team. On his announcement of Davis Cup captain, he stated, “I am very happy. It has been my dream since
I stopped playing and I am honoured by this appointment."
Davis Cup failure of Argentina earlier this month at the hands of Spanish team and their captain’s poor relationship with one of the teammates has been the major news in the limelight that has formed a shape of controversies. Argentinean
Tennis Federation is facing a lot of criticism at the moment at inability to win the Davis Cup titles, even though reaching the final on four different occasions including this year’s campaign that ended on 4th December.
Recently the captain of the Davis Cup team, Tito Vazquez resigned from his duties as the Argentinean Davis Cup captain and put forth some controversial statements about his relationship with the Argentine tennis superstar David
Nalbandian.
He stated about his problems with Nalbandian in the following manner, “I had differences with David and I still have them, but we learnt to get along. I didn't give him the place that he wanted it was no use to me that the whole
team danced to the rhythm of one player. I don't see him as a positive leader inside the team."
It will be interesting to see how the former world number 10 reacts to this matter and unites everyone under one umbrella. He has been originally assigned on a two-year contract that can be exceeded provided he fulfils his duties
with great command and brings glory to the home crowd. Jaite has been a coach for Nalbandian in the past so it is expected that all the controversies between the previous captain and Nalbandian will not ignite once again.
Argentina start their Davis Cup campaign in February next year against the strong German side so Jaite will have to make sure that his maiden run as the captain doesn’t end in despair.
